Introduction
Gauge ("we," "our," or "us") respects your privacy and is committed to protecting your personal data. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use the Gauge mobile application.
Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account Information: Email address (for authentication)
- Profile Information: Name (optional), age, gender, height, weight, activity level
- Health Goals: Target weight, daily calorie and macro goals
- Training Data: Workouts and training plans you log in the app
- Food & Water Logs: Food entries, portion sizes, water intake
- Preferences: Notification settings, unit preferences (imperial/metric), timezone
Automatically Collected Information
- Technical Data: IP address and app version, as part of standard server request logs. Gauge does not use analytics SDKs, does not track interaction patterns, and does not collect crash reports.
Information from Third Parties
- Training Platforms: If you connect Strava, we receive your workout and activity data to plan your daily fueling. This connection is optional and you can disconnect it at any time in Settings.
- AI Service: Gauge's core features are powered by Claude, an AI service operated by Anthropic PBC. With your consent (requested in the app before any data is sent), we transmit the following to Anthropic to provide these features:
- Food logging and nutrition analysis: the text and voice descriptions of food you log, and photos of meals you choose to photograph
- Imports: recipe photos and training-plan images or text you share with Gauge
- Coaching and morning digest: your first name, age, sex, height, weight and weight trend, daily nutrition targets, recent food log, and recent workout history
- Restaurant lookup (optional): if you enable location for restaurants in Settings, your approximate location as a city/region name (derived on your device — your precise coordinates are never transmitted)
- Payment Information: Subscription payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We do not store your payment card information.
How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Provide and improve the Gauge service
- Calculate personalized calorie and macro goals
- Plan your daily fueling around your training
- Track your food and water intake
- Send meal reminders and notifications (if enabled)
- Analyze app performance and fix technical issues
- Process subscription payments and manage your account
- Comply with legal obligations
Data Storage and Security
- Storage: Your data is securely stored using Supabase (a PostgreSQL database service) with encryption at rest and in transit
- Location: Data is stored in secure data centers with industry-standard security measures
- Security: We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures including encryption, access controls, and regular security audits
- Retention: Your data is retained for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in these limited circumstances:
- Service Providers: Anthropic PBC (AI processing for food analysis, nutrition lookup, coaching, and the morning digest — see “AI Service” above for exactly what is shared, all uses, and the consent requirement; Anthropic is contractually bound to protections equivalent to this policy and does not use your data to train its models), Supabase (database hosting)
- Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or to protect our legal rights
- Business Transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
Your Rights and Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of your personal data
- Correction: Update or correct your information through the app settings
- Deletion: Delete your account and all associated data
- Export: Download your data in a portable format
- Opt-Out: Disable notifications and data collection features
- Withdraw Consent: Stop using the app at any time
Children's Privacy
Gauge is not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover we have collected information from a child under 13, we will delete it immediately.
International Data Transfers
Your data may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your own. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for international transfers.
Push Notifications
If you enable notifications, we will send:
- Meal reminders at your scheduled times
- Water intake reminders
- App updates and tips
You can disable notifications at any time through your device settings or the app.
Cookies and Tracking
The Gauge app does not use cookies. We collect anonymized usage analytics to improve app performance.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or via email. Continued use of Gauge after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.

California residents have additional rights:
- Right to know what personal information is collected

Data Deletion
When you delete your account:
- All personal data is permanently deleted within 30 days
- Cached nutritional data is cleared
- Subscription status is updated with App Store/Play Store
- Some data may be retained for legal compliance (e.g., transaction records for 7 years)
